I decided to try my hand at chocolates when Bob found a recipe for peppermint pattis’. I’ve tested out a recipe recipes online and tweaked my favorite some. Absolutely delicious and over 400 made. Now I want cookies! Merry Christmas to you all!
Love your reminiscences about stollen. If I'm very lucky, one of my sisters makes and sends me one - and one arrived this morning! Looking forward to eating it tomorrow morning with Christmas coffee and presents.
As for cookies, every year for the past 20 or so I have made several hundred Ginger Spice Cookies, from an old Bon Appetit recipe (March 2000). Some friends and family are on the 'cookie list' every year; other friends are added (or discarded) depending upon the year and the amount of time I have. It's an easy and awesome recipe and I highly recommend it. Start buying crystalized ginger in the supermarket (or Trader Joe's often) whenever you see it; it's sometimes unavailable and it's an essential ingredient.
Another new-to-me recipe is a chocolate peppermint brownie cookie filled with chopped peppermint bark. I can't find the original recipe but google leads to several similar ones. Excellent frozen!
Merry Christmas to you, the Farmer and Julia. I hope the lambing season continues to go smoothly!
I spent holidays with my Aunt Emma n Uncle Milton on a 200 acre Swedish dairy farm. My aunt's mother in law taught her to make stollen, and we looked forward to it every year. And Swedish ginger thin cookies with fresh cider. Haven't thought about that in years. Thank you for bringing back those wonderful memories. May you and yours enjoy all the best this season, and life, have to offer. smiles and a hug from Savannah GA.
I make eight different cookie recipes every Christmas. Five of them are recipes handed down from my mother-in-law, two are recipes from my Italian heritage and the last is one that from my aunt. Everyone in the family has their favorite! I also make a coffee cake recipe that my mother-in-law made every year, New England Potato Coffee Cake. It is an all day type of recipe made with love for my hubby once a year. It always brings back such memories to make these recipes.

I’ve never seen a cookie like this. So pretty and dainty. Kind of ephemeral. Merry merry.
