Hello Colorful Friends:
Big, big news here today on my Colorful Newsletter from the Farm! The first of the How To Videos I filmed in Missouri a month or so ago is now available on YouTube. I’ve embedded it below but you can also go to YouTube and watch it there. The video is 39 minutes long and shows you all there is to make a crochet hexagon and How to Make the Hexagon Garland Project.
Here is the basic How To Make a Crochet Hexagon Video. It also includes a fun How To to make a Crochet Hexagon Garland (photo below). I hope you enjoy the video and give Hexagons a try.
Even better news is that One Big Happy Yarn Company is offering my readers an exclusive 20% off Discount on any of the Hexagon Kits you purchase. As each video is released, (there are three more to come in the next few months) there will be kits for each of the projects from One Big Happy Yarn Company.
You can preview the projects and kits on the One Big Happy Yarn Company website now. Here is the link for the 20% off discount code.
The video includes instructions to make this super sweet Hexagon Garland.
When Sara asked me to teach the crochet hexagons, my big question (to myself) was what yarn should I use. I’ve been making Crochet Hexagon Blankets for the past several winters. I have been using my stash of my past yarns — Color By Kristin (from Classic Elite) and Julia (from Nashua Handknits). It was an amazing yarn spun of 50% Wool, 25% Mohair and 25% Alpaca in a dazzling choice of colors.
Because I needed to find a color range that spoke “Kristin”, Sara suggested several qualities from different yarn companies. I’ve been out of the yarn industry loop for quite a while and didn’t know where to turn since when I make something, I dig into my stash and begin without having to source yarn.
The yarn I found with the best color range was Berroco’s Ultra Alpaca. It is a luxurious blend of 50% alpaca and 50% wool. It comes in 100 gram hanks that yield 219 long yards. You can see the color range HERE. Once I started crocheting, I became “hooked” on the Ultra Alpaca. It slid gently across my hook and the colors were saturated and gorgeous. It was pure luxury working the projects. I hope you will give it a try.
Once again - THIS IS THE DISCOUNT CODE FOR MY READERS TO RECEIVE A 20% DISCOUNT ON THE CROCHET HEXAGON KITS.
I’ll be back on Sunday with more news. I can’t wait to see your Hexagon Projects. If you’re on Instagram, tag me (@kristinnicholas) and One Big Happy (@onebighappyyarnco) so we can see what you are making.
Yours in COLOR and HEXAGONS,
Kristin Nicholas
P.S. Here is my first Hexagon Blanket — the one that started it all…….
