The sheep moving out onto spring grass
Hello Friends from Leyden Glen Farm!
This weekend is Mother's Day and we want to salute all the mothers out there including our sheep mamas. Thank you mamas for all the work you do raising our lambs - all without any complaints. Without females, our farm would be nothing.
This past week, we have been moving the adult ewes (that is what a female sheep is called) out onto pasture to begin the cycle of spring, summer and fall grazing. Here is a short video of 15 sheep meeting their friends. We use an old landscape trailer to move the sheep when the distance is more than walkable. It isn't glamorous but it gets the job done. This spring there has been so much rain that the farmers and sheep have been knee deep in mud and muck for a month. Here's to some much needed sunshine.
Have you seen the new issue of Bon Appetit? On the cover, there is a lovely platter of rib chops. The recipe is featured in the article on food from Lebanon. Check it out.
We will be at the Amherst Common Market tomorrow from 8 to 1:30. Pick up some lamb chops for the mamas in your life or maybe one of the tea towels that Kristin designs the fabric for and sews herself for you.
Have a great weekend!
As always, we thank you for your support of our farm and family.
Your shepherds,
Mark, Kristin and Julia
