The sheep at sunset one evening
Happy Fall Friends from Leyden Glen Farm!
Our hill is beginning to turn those beautiful autumn shades of gold and olive and red. We have had a crazy amount of rain here in western Massachusetts which has kept the pastures growing lushly all season long. The sheep are still enjoying their daily salad.
Your Farmer Mark had a second surgery two weeks ago to repair a torn muscle caused by a fall after his hip replacement surgery. He is wearing a hip brace for 4 more weeks. It is testing his patience tolerance of which he has none. Luckily we have some good farm helpers to help with haying for next winter's feed.
Autumn is a fantastic time to add lamb to your weekly shopping list. Did you see the new recipe featured in the latest issue of Bon Appetit - Warm-Spiced Saucy Lamb Stew made with lamb shanks. We have plenty of them if you want to give it a try. They use "cauliflower crumbs" as a topping. Check out the recipe here. (Photo below from Bon Appetit website.)
It is the traditional Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day and you may have the day off. What a perfect time to cook up some kind of warming stew. Don't like the one above? What about our Autumnal Provencal Lamb Stew with Autumn Squash? Find the recipe here.
Stop by The Amherst Farmers Market Saturday from 8 to 1:30 or at the Tuesday Market in Northampton from 1:30 to 6:30 behind Thornes Marketplace. Kristin will be there and she can update you on Mark's recovery from surgery.
Hope to see you soon.
