One Day Creative Retreats + Good Links
Hello Colorful Friends!
It's the beginning of June in 2018. Hard to believe how the year is flying by. I'm planning my yearly Creative Retreats here at our farm in western Massachusetts. I'm hoping to have some things I have made, inspired by the subjects of my retreats by next week. Fingers crossed I can get it done along with all the other things I have to do!
I have the following One Day Retreats coming up here this summer. To register, scroll to the end of the Classes page and you will see each One Day Retreat listed. Price is $199 and includes most supplies, morning snacks, lunch and beverages and farmhouse tour. It is a great time so please think about coming to our farm. Hours are 9:30 to 4. See the photos at the end of this email for the projects that students will be making their very own versions of.
August 11 - Decorative Furniture Painting $199
August 12 - Fabric Printing $199
July 29 - Fabric Printing + Decorative Embroidery $199
July 30 - Ceramic Tile Design $199
September 23 - Color for Knitters and Crocheters and Embroidery on Knit/Crochet $199

I know a Retreat here at Leyden Glen Farm is on a lot of people's bucket lists. Honestly though, enrollment has been a bit slow this year and so I am rethinking if I will continue these. This is the 10th year I have held these Creative Retreats. That is a long time. Since I began, more and more retreats and creative events have popped up including those organized by very large companies with lots of staff. It is difficult for little old me to compete. So think seriously about coming if you really have wanted to.
I had a great Book Event at Webs in Northampton yesterday. Just enough people to feel appreciated. I shared most of the projects and techniques in my new book Crafting A Patterned Home, chatted with folks and signed lots of books. Thanks to Webs for hosting the event.
If you have a chance - my publisher has asked me to see if I can rally any Amazon Book Reviews for Crafting A Patterned Home. Evidently if a book has 50 or more reviews, it ranks higher in the Search Engines - I have 3 so far. The only way I will be able to do another book is to sell this one. Personally, I'm up to just over 300 books sold which isn't bad. The review can be short and sweet or more words if you feel so inclined. Thanks in advance.
I'm still shipping books directly. Purchase a copy and you will get a signed copy along with a lovely Kristin designed hand painted bookplate and a set of colorful postcards, and free shipping by USPS Media Mail.

Here are some things I found interesting on the WWW recently .
• A fun use for the pom poms you have made that you don't know what to do with.
• I think many of you will enjoy this post by Pip about her empty nest.
• More from Pip - a selection of Marrimeko fabrics - I haven't seen many of them.
• I discovered this new European magazine called Koel which features all kinds of textile crafts including knit, crochet, punch-needle, latch-hooking, macrame, weaving...... It is a little too white for me but it is fun to see so many different kinds of textile arts in one place. Check out their website.
• A knitwear designer who explains what goes into publishing a knitting pattern. I wrote about a similar subject a few years ago here.
• The folks at Purl Soho are offering a free pattern for a knitted sheep pillow here.
• I found these photos and article about Rope Making in the early 1900's in London a real treasure.
• An article about family farms in the US.
Yours in color and creativity,
Kristin Nicholas

A fun video of our farm, our farmhouse, and my family. Our farm is located 2 hours from Boston and 3 1/2 hours from NYC. We are at the northern most part of western Massachusetts bordering Vermont. Our farm is 15 minutes off of Route 91, the north/south highway connecting Montreal to NYC.
