Announcing 2018 Creative Retreats at Leyden Glen Farm
Hello Colorful Friends:
Spring finally seems to be on its way to western Massachusetts. Yesterday it was sunny and almost warm. I could almost see the daffodils and Virginia bluebells grow before my eyes. The sheep escaped -- also a sign of spring. They were looking for nice green grass which we all know is always on the other side of the fence. Farmers Markets began - stop by the Tuesday Market in Northampton to say hi if you are passing through.
It's been a busy few weeks here at the farm. And it looks to be busy for the rest of the year. This past week, I announced a special FREE event I am hosting here at the farm. On May 5-6, I am opening our 1751 farmhouse to the public to celebrate the publication of my new book Crafting A Patterned Home. Here's a little invite photographer Rikki Snyder made to announce it.
What's a Book Launch Party? It is anything I want it to be considering I have never done this before nor have I ever been to one. I'll be sharing the spaces in our home, the projects from the book and from my past, and the two new She Sheds will be open for you to poke around inside too. I'm aiming to inspire my visitors to be creative and colorful with their home. If you can make it - I would be so happy to welcome you and to share my home and art with you. I've set up an EVENTBRITE PAGE for tickets to make it easier for me to determine how much interest there is. Check it out here - it has all the specifics along with directions to our farm. I will have books for sale and some other things too.
Can't get to the Open House on May 5+6. You can still order Crafting A Patterned Home directly from me on my website and I will throw in some fun freebies plus free freight.
Here's how you order:
You can order over on my website here.
You can also order on my Etsy Shop here.
I have officially posted the Creative Retreats at Leyden Glen Farm that I have planned for 2018. I hope you will hop on over and take a look at what I am offering. Photos at the end of this email show you all the techniques I will be teaching.
There are 3 weekend long retreats. They are:
--July 21/22 - Decorative Furniture Painting and Fabric Printing
--July 28/28 - Fabric Printing, Decorative Embroidery and Ceramic Tile Design
--September 22/23 - Color and Embroidery for Knitters and Crazy Quilt Swatch Afghan
This year's classes are quite varied and will be packed with excellent information that you will be able to take away and practice on your own. I hope you will come to the farm, enjoy the garden, the scenery, our colorful farmhouse and good food while immersing yourself in a creative, warm and friendly atmosphere with a very small number of students. Beginners are welcome and encouraged! If you have any questions about the retreats, please contact me at kristinnicholas@gmail.com.
Another exciting thing happened this past week - our home was featured on Apartment Therapy, the very popular decorating and home website. You can check out the photos and the interview here.
Here are some things I found on the web this week:
• I just found 2 short films on the handmade wallpaper company Papermills. Fascinating. Watch them here.
• Here is an amazing pet cemetery in London. The inscriptions on the stones are so interesting.
• This Red Pesto Ravioli made with sun-dried tomatoes looks delicious.
• This article about a traditional form of embroidery called Chikankari done in India is fascinating. Watch this video to learn more.
• This article on posing for David Hockney was very interesting. (Thank you Austin Kleon.) BTW, his portrait show is at the LA Museum of Art until July 29th. I'm a longtime fan of Hockney and would love to see it but alas.
• This beautiful home Voewood would be the perfect place for a wedding.
Any questions about the Book Party or the Creative Retreats, gladly answered. Send them to kristinnicholas@gmail.com or respond to this email.
Yours in color and creativity,
Kristin Nicholas

A fun video of our farm, our farmhouse, and my family. Our farm is located 2 hours from Boston and 3 1/2 hours from NYC. We are at the northern most part of western Massachusetts bordering Vermont. Our farm is 15 minutes off of Route 91, the north/south highway connecting Montreal to NYC.
