March News from Kristin Nicholas
Hello Colorful Friends!
It is a beautiful sunny March day here as I sit writing to you. We have had quite a few weeks of weather and nor'easters. There may be another coming. Maple sugaring season has been quite delayed this year after an initial big run when temps hit 70. I look forward to seeing the smoke rising through the western Massachusetts hills. It is a true sign of spring.
In 23 days - April 10th - my new book Crafting A Patterned Home will be launching into the world. I received my "author copy" and folks - it is a stunner - I must admit. It is loaded with so many projects that feature handmade pattern on furniture, walls, fabrics, textiles and more.
If you can, I would appreciate you helping me and my family out by purchasing a copy directly from me. You will get a signed copy along with a lovely Kristin designed hand painted bookplate and a set of colorful postcards. Now that is something Amazon will not be able to offer! Thanks in advance. Ordering details at the end of this email.
In my last newsletter, I shared a new project I was working on - a Scrappy Hexagon Crochet Afghan. Well it is done! I can't believe I finished it - I thought it would take me two years. I have added the pattern to my blog if you would like to give it a go. Here is the link to see more photos and get the FREE pattern. It really was so much fun to make. Scroll down to watch a video on YouTube of how I combine the colored hexies and how I sew the pieces together.
On my blog this weekend, I shared some thoughts about my 12 years of blogging. You can read them here. Thank you for following along if you do. You can sign up to get an email of each post here. Here's to lucky year 13. Thank you for reading.
Here are some links to things I have found interesting -
• This series of posts on the writing of Thoreau gives me much to ponder. Scroll down through when you have time.
• I enjoyed this podcast interview with Amy Sherald - the artist who painted Michelle Obama's portrait for the National Portrait Gallery. (Photos and artwork too on this link.)
• In my last newsletter, I announced that Free Spirit and Westminster Fabrics was being shut down. Good news - they have been bought and the beautiful fabric collections will carry on. Read about it here.
• I am looking at these wool slip on shoes.
• How Urban Outfitters uses social media.
• Beautiful garden ideas from Ireland.
Yours in color and creativity,
Kristin Nicholas
