Come to Kristin's Creative Retreats at Leyden Glen Farm
Hello Colorful Friends!
Happy Mother's Day to ALL OF YOU - mother or not. We women really make the world go round, don't we? And so much is done with no credit at all. Thank you all for your support of me and my creative life. The notes I receive from so many of you are much appreciated.
Today on my blog, I wrote a tribute to my Mom Nancy. Here is a photo of her taken just recently when she and my sisters Laurie and Nancy visited Keukenhof in The Netherlands. You can read it here.
I want to let you all know that people are signing up for the July and September classes here at the farm. YIPPEE! At the end of this email, I've listed this season's creative and fun classes. I also have just added a list of "Where To Stay" and "Where To Eat Dinner." As much as I would like to house everyone here at the farm, we just don't have room. There are so many lovely places to stay around here. Morning snacks, beverages, and farm style lunch are included with your class price. If you have any questions, respond to this email and I will get back to you.
Here are some inspiring things I have discovered on the www this week:
• We are swimming in eggs here at our farm. Did you know that it is really difficult to peel farm raised eggs? Here is a method and a recipe that addresses how to make them peel a bit easier.
• I loved this post about mothers swaddling their babies with textiles in many cultures around the world. Lovely photos too.
• Have you ever forgotten a bunch of flowers in your car only to discover they are a wilted mess. Here's how to revive them.
• There's a great new series of free entrepreneurial interviews on CreativeLive including Mark Cuban, Richard Branson, Ariana Huffington and more. Check it out here. I listened to the Mark Cuban and LeVar Burton interviews while painting. Inspiring to a creative person like me (and you) if you are running your own creative business. Many other life lessons too. You can also find them on the Creative Live YouTube Channel here. They are about an hour long each.
• I just received the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living and was kind of disappointed to see that they have no beautiful crafts inside and seem to have dropped the Craft Editor from their masthead. Did you know that the magazine was sold to Meredith, the publisher of 100's of mags including Better Homes and Gardens. I wonder what this will mean to the future look of MSL. Lots of changes for sure.
• And speaking of the magazine business, Harris Publications - publisher of such Special Interest mags including Romantic Homes, Flea Market Style, Paint It, and more - have closed their doors. Another one bites the dust. Oh, how darn sad.
• Listened to a great interview with illustrator and author Maira Kalman here. What a talent. Do you know her work? (Lots of listening here as I paint my way through my next book!)
• Spoonflower, the digital printed fabric marketplace is having a 15 % off sale until the end of the day Monday, May 9th. You can see my fabric designs available on Spoonflower here and browse thousands of other indie designers fabrics too.
• Lastly, this coming weekend is the Annual Webs Tent Sale and Fleece Sale. I'll have a small booth set up selling our farm raised lamb and my books. Please stop by and say hi! I would love to meet you.
Wherever you are, I wish you a Happy Mothers Day - mother or not. Women make the world go round and a much better place. XO
Yours in color and creativity,
Kristin Nicholas
P.S. I took the photos below of Spring on Leyden Glen Farm over the past couple weeks. You can see more on my blog here.

A fun video of our farm, our farmhouse, and my family. A good preview for sure if you are thinking of coming to one of my Creative Retreats this July or September.
