Autumn Making News from Kristin Nicholas
Hello Colorful Friends!
Autumn is in all its glory here in western Massachusetts. That is our road on the photo above. This weekend is the traditional big weekend for "leaf peepers." The Mohawk Trail and local orchards will be destinations for people out looking at the colorful leaves and picking apples. On my blog this week, I shared my favorite Fruit Crisp Recipe. I feel so fortunate to live where others come to visit.
Farmer Mark and I will be at the Amherst Farmers Market tomorrow (Satuday) from 8 to 1:30 on the Amherst Common. Stop by if you are in the area. We sell our farm raised lamb and my pottery and tea towels.
On Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Eastern time, I will be updating my On-Line Pottery Shop. I'll have lots of new pots - vases, pitchers, bowls, platters, cachepots and mugs. I have been working on these pieces since spring. Many of these are larger pieces made during my 100 Day Instagram Project. Here is the link to that project.
Here are a few of the pieces that will be for sale in my shop. Lots of color and fun to brighten up your life. Each piece of my pottery is completely different. To decorate them, I examine the shape and then respond to it with floral and textile inspired motifs. Each color has three coats of color in order to obtain the bright, saturated shades.
I hope you have time to get outside this weekend if you are where the weather is nice. Before long, we here in New England will be inside for months except for winter shores and outside activities. At least there will be time to create - knit, crochet, stitch, pot, bake and cook. And there will be lambs in the winter here at our farm.
Here are a few good links for the week.
• A lace inspired mural enveloping a French fashion museum. Beautiful.
• I listened to Block printer and Author Molly Mahon on the Up with the Lark podcast here. It's a podcast about creativity. Molly's new book is called House of Print.
• I watched A Winter Too Many from 1972 about Hannah Hauxwell, a farmer in remote Yorkshire. Fascinating story and other videos to watch that follow.
• This is a very easy and tasty chicken thigh recipe by Merrill Stubbs on Food 52. I've made it twice in a couple weeks.
• I love the work of Textile Artist Mimi Kirchner. This Gardening Hound is too darn cute - such incredible detail.
• Selvedge has a new podcast that will be released monthly. Read about it here.
• Happy to mention that my Crewel Embroidery Class Stitch It With Wool is once again available on Craftsy.com. If you didn't hear, Craftsy was almost a goner. The original company had been purchased by NBCUniversal. Putting their "big company" magic on it and renaming it Bluprint evidently didn't quite work out. They were going to close it down and then the class structure was purchased by TN Marketing out of Minnesota. Happily all the crafting, baking, etc classes are now once again available. I sell the supplies to support my class on my website here.
Don't forget my Pottery Shop Update this Sunday at 9 a.m. EDT.
For knitters, I've included photos or my recently released World Knits Collection PDF Downloads below. It's about time to start knitting again - wouldn't you agree? Not too early for Christmas Stocking Knitting, for sure. Here's two of my favorite designs -- each featuring 5 or 6 designs. Click the photo for more information.
As always, thank you for reading. Have a great weekend.
Yours in color and creativity,
Kristin Nicholas

Here is a video of my Talk at Google. I went to Cambridge, Massachusetts and spoke at their offices there in late June.
A fun video of our farm, our farmhouse, and my family. Our farm is located 2 hours from Boston and 3 1/2 hours from NYC. We are at the northern most part of western Massachusetts bordering Vermont. Our farm is 15 minutes off of Route 91, the north/south highway connecting Montreal to NYC.
