Lambing Season at Leyden Glen Farm
Hello Colorful Friends!
It's been a few weeks since I have written you all. Life goes on here at Leyden Glen Farm. We are looking forward to and planning the upcoming Farmers Market Season. We have 98 lambs thus far. The lambs in the header are playing "king of the manure pile." Below is a pair that are so photogenic.
I've written a new blog post about lambing this year here on my blog. The ewes are still lambing and The Farmer is hoping to have about 50 more lambs this spring.
The past couple weeks, I have been working on fabric designs for new tea towels. I only design tea towels once a year because they take a certain type of headspace and a lot of time to do. Winter is about the only time I have enough time to concentrate on all the computer work that it takes. I can't wait to finish them so I can move back to my ceramics.
This is the last newsletter introducing my World Knits PDF Pattern Collection. There are three new designs:
The Ethnic Gift Collection features a Dog Sweater in several sizes, Fair Isle Christmas Stocking, Teddy Bear Sweater, Knitted Toys including Farmer, sheep, cow, pig, and chicken, and a Farm Woman Purse or Monedero. Check out my blog post with some process shots.
Inspired Interiors features 5 different styles of pillows including square, round and a bolster.
Wild Wooly Headgear features 5 different hats in varying degrees of difficulty from a flat hat to a stocking cap to a hat with four knitted corners inspired by Andean 4 corned hats from the 8th century.
See the photos that follow and read the links below each photo. If you keep your patterns in the Ravelry database, make sure you purchase the individual patterns through the Ravelry links below.

Here are some good links I have discovered.
• I follow crochet designer Janie Crow on Instagram. She has a lovely newsletter you can sign up for on her website here. I love her Persian Tiles Afghan.
•The Smithsonian has just released 2.8 million images to public domain. Talk about a rabbit hole to get lost in. I typed in the word "sheep" into the search bar and look what came up. There were sheep living at the White House during President Wilson's tenure in 1919 to save money and fuel on mowing the grass.
• I was not familiar with Patteh - a form of wool embroidery from Iran. Simply gorgeous.
• Have you heard of the Grandmillenial Trend? Nice to see.
• Have you seen the new movie version of Little Women? I loved it - my favorite part was the gorgeous set and the clothing. I could live in those woolens. This is a very good article about the clothing design and its part in the movie.
• Real linen sheets are making a comeback according to The Business Of Home.
• This is a great article about the small Canadian spinning mill Briggs and Little. Still family owned and run!
Lastly, we have a new litter of kittens and I'll leave you with this photo I took last night. Aren't they the cutest?
Yours in color and creativity,
Kristin Nicholas

Here is a video of my Talk at Google. I went to Cambridge, Massachusetts and spoke at their offices there in late June.
A fun video of our farm, our farmhouse, and my family. Our farm is located 2 hours from Boston and 3 1/2 hours from NYC. We are at the northern most part of western Massachusetts bordering Vermont. Our farm is 15 minutes off of Route 91, the north/south highway connecting Montreal to NYC.
