The sheep moving out onto spring grass
Hello Friends from Leyden Glen Farm!
November is here. We made it through the Halloween storm - electricity in tact. All the leaves are off the trees, the wind is blowing fiercely but the sun is shining. The sheep love this time of year. It is cold and crisp and they spend their days and nights grazing. Soon the pastures will be frozen and the grass will stop growing. We will move the sheep to their winter barns and fields in Bernardston where they will eat the hay Mark harvested this summer. In January, the lambs will begin to arrive and the cycle will begin anew again. Mark is so excited for lambing season since his hips have been replaced. He is feeling so much better and can't wait to see the little lambs that are percolating in their mama's tummies now.
I've started cooking some delicious winter lamb stews and soups. This Lamb Shank or Shoulder recipe is a favorite. We dined on it twice this week on top of a tasty polenta with a side of broccoli. Yum. Get the recipe here or pick it up at one of our markets. It is super easy and delicious.
We've had a busy year on the farm and there is still more to go. On December 7 + 8, we are hosting our 5th Annual Open House. Mark your calendars to visit our farm and colorful farmhouse. Pick up some handmade holiday gifts or a leg of lamb to celebrate the holidays. See the video about our colorful farmhouse with some incredible drone footage of the sheep below.
The farmers market season will soon be coming to an end. There are three more weeks at the Amherst Saturday Market (from 7:30 to 1:30 on the Amherst Common). The Saturday before Thanksgiving is your last day in Amherst to pick up some of our delicious lamb for your freezer to help feed your family through the winter season.
In addition, we will be at the Tuesday Market in Northampton next Tuesday November 5th (Election Day). We just recently started up again in Northampton and this coming Tuesday will be our last market day there.
Hope to see you at the market on Saturday or Tuesday or at our farm December 7 + 8
As always, we thank you for the support of our farm and family.

Mark, Kristin and Julia
