The sheep moving out onto spring grass
Hello Friends from Leyden Glen Farm!
A quick update from the farm. Farmer Mark is healing amazingly well from his second hip replacement surgery. He will be back at the Amherst Farmers Market tomorrow with our newest batch of Sweet Italian Lamb Sausage. Stop by and say hi to him. He missed everyone at the market during the past year or so as he was dealing with his failing hips. Mark probably won't last the entire market so catch him while you can.
Here is a photo of the sheep grazing high up in the hills of Leyden. They have been hunkered down in the shade everyday and graze all night long.
New to our market stand is my very own pottery. For those of you who don't know The Farmer's Wife, let me introduce myself. I am Kristin Nicholas and besides helping out on the farm, I am also an artist. I work in ceramics, textile design, needlework and knitting design and oil and gouache painting. I've been wo-manning the Leyden Glen Stand part of last year and all of this year. I figure if I am going to stand there for many hours, I might as well sell some of my own handmade products along with our delicious lamb. Here is a sneak peek of some of the small flower vases I will have with me.
Stop by the Amherst Farmers Market tomorrow from 7:30 to 1:30 and pick up some of our delicious lamb. We and all the other farmers would love to see you.
Here is a very fun recipe for our ground lamb - Grilled Pitas Stuffed with Lamb. It is delicious and a perfect add-on to any picnic or outdoor grilling session.
As always, we thank you for the support of our farm and family.
Your shepherds,
Mark, Kristin and Julia
